Rabindra Parishad Established in 1948.
Rabindranath Tagore is one of the greatest sons, India has ever produced. he has put his signature in every field of art and literature in such a manner that he is considered to be the best ambassador of India to the West.
With a view to propagate his ideas, literature, songs and other creative faculties to the common masses, particularly to the new generation, it was felt by a few elites of Patna, way back in 1947, to establish an organisation. That was the beginning of Rabindra Parishad. Then there was no looking back...
Rabindra Parishad is one of two such organisations in the country which runs without any governmental control so far its formations, administrations etc are concerned. It's entirely run by the governing body elected by the members. It has its own Trust Board.
Now Rabindra Parishad has an auditorium, know as Rabindra Bhawan with a sitting capacity for 655 persons which has become a centre of all cultural activities.
It's Musical school, known as Geet Bhawan, is one of the best such schools in the State Capital having special arrangement for Rabindra Sangeet Teaching.
A Library with books on and by Tagore and the reading room serve the common readers and research scholars in a great way.
Its drama tronpe has established itself as one of the prominent groups of Patna. besides Tagore's Play's. other play's by eminent playwrights have also received wide appreciation.
Geet Bhawan's cultural team visited Banglore, Kerala and Tripura on invitation by the respective State governments and performed well to ad new features to its cap of achievements.
Teaching of Bengali to non-Bengali speaking students to develop their awareness and love for Tagore's creations in it's right spirit is an important job of Rabindra Parishad to further its objectives.
Rabindra Parishad's untiring efforts made the State Government accepted two of it's demands
- To name a road of the capital after the great poet.
- To rename Dak Bunglow Crossing as Rabindra Chowk, now the most important crossing of the capital is known as Rabindra Chowk one of the busy roads in Rajendranagar is knows as Rabindra Path.
Rabindra Puraskar is awarded by the Parishad to an individual for outstanding contribution is spreading Rabindranath's ideals and philosophy. This is also an unique feature of Rabindra Parishad as this is not done by any such organisation having similar aims and objective all over the country. First such an award was presented posthumously to Late Pt. Hams kumar tewary an eminent Hindi Litterateur for his translation works from Bengali to Hindi Specially in the field of Rabindra Sangeet. The second time it was awarded to Smt. Jalaj Acharya Bhaduri, an exponent of Rabindra Sangeet in Hindi.
Rabindra Parishad has earned a rare distinction of holding Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan with about thirty prominent Rabindra Sangeet Singers from Shantiniketan and Kolkata every time. three such Sammelans have so far been organised.
Rabindra Parishad can also boast of its publications. Annual numbers with highly impressive articles on various aspects of Rabindra Nath Tagore in Bengali, Hindi and English are collectors choice.
